Description

WELSCH specializes in the manufacturing of complex, geometrically demanding components that form the heart of modern concrete extrusion lines. Our surgical precision is achieved through a strategic manufacturing network that combines our extensive in-house resources with a hand-picked circle of specialized partner workshops. This hybrid model allows us to scale our production capacity and utilize the most advanced 5-axis technologies, robotic automation, and EDM processes to deliver high-performance shaping tools, rollers, side-rollers, slippers, and round-nose knives.

Our manufacturing ecosystem is engineered for production of dense, high-alloy shaping tools that must withstand extreme compaction forces. We utilize state-of-the-art 5-axis simultaneous machining centers to produce intricate 3D freeform surfaces that exceed the capabilities of traditional 3-axis methods.

Complex Slipper and Roller Geometry: We manufacture shaping tools with a precision work-cube of up to Ø 1,050 mm. This allows us to mill the delicate radii and complex curvatures of side-slippers and rollers in a single setup, ensuring perfect concentricity.

Robotic Integration and Scalable Capacity: To support high-volume global demands, we utilize 6-axis robot handling and 120-tool magazines. By combining our internal automated cells with the specialized capacities of our partner network, we ensure short lead times and consistent "Welsch Standard" quality for large-scale series production.

Large-Scale Component Travel: For specialized frames and oversized shaping elements, our capacity extends to a massive 3,600 mm x 1,100 mm travel area, providing the calculated certainty required for even the largest extrusion lines.

5-Axis Turning and Mill-Turn Integration: Our 5-axis turning centers feature counter-spindles and bar feeder integration, allowing us to produce finished rollers and drive shafts from raw stock in a single, high-precision operation. We accommodate turning lengths up to 2,000 mm and chuck diameters up to Ø 400 mm.

Wire EDM and Specialized Cutting Technologies: For materials that are too hard or geometries that are too delicate for traditional milling, WELSCH utilizes high-precision wire EDM with a travel area of 600 mm x 400 mm x 310 mm. Our waterjet table (3,200 mm x 1,575 mm) allows for the cold-cutting of primary materials without inducing heat-affected zones, preserving the metallurgical integrity of the alloy from the very first cut.

Every shaping tool undergoes rigorous verification utilizing ZEISS coordinate measuring technology (CMM), and parts are marked via high-precision laser marking systems for full traceability.

A WELSCH-milled slipper isn't just a part; it's a precision instrument. By utilizing 5-axis freeform technology, we allow you to launch new, complex tile profiles with the Calculated Certainty that the first tile will look exactly like the design, and so will the millionth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Traditional 3-axis milling requires multiple setups introducing stacking errors and visible seams. Our 5-axis simultaneous machining produces complex 3D-contoured surfaces in a single continuous operation, ensuring surgical surface continuity for 150 TPM extrusion.
By milling pre-hardened materials (AISI D2) after heat treatment, we avoid the dimensional warping that occurs in standard soft-milling processes. The result is geometric consistency that remains identical across your entire tool inventory.
For specialized frames and oversized shaping elements, our capacity extends to a massive 3,600 mm x 1,100 mm travel area. Combined with waterjet cutting at 3,200 x 1,575 mm for cold-cutting without heat-affected zones.
